Yes they are. Once you enter karl, instead of taking the normal entrance, go left, there's another entrance, it leads to an easier area, they've got those monsters in there.

go allll the way to the left--i think there's 3 enterances, the one people normally enter is far on the right, then theres one in the middle with more turtles and crabs, then one more to the left with kraken blobs etc..
