Ultima Online...graphics are easily what DA could look like (800x600 pixels instead of our current 16-bit, think SNes vs nes)...tradeskill system is easily better however the storyline itself apparently has no direction...

there arent many games online that have good gameplay that actually ties into a storyline. besides WoW and nexus TK but blizzard had direction for the storyline almost a full decade before WoW was out and nexus TK has been around longer then any game iv played Amusing. isnt TK from the old apple desktop days?

actually theres far more loophooles and dead ends in the Warcraft story than anyone really notices. I personally question the opening of the portal to Draenar as opposed to Northrend, Hyjal, The Emerald Dream, finishing the King quest(i know where he is...theres just no quest to go "rescue" him)...lots of us have made long lists of things that could be done without the need of an xpac...new races are nice and all...but what good is a new race if there arent any new classes to go with it?

Actually, they released WoW before it was finished, that's why the servers are down/lag so much.  It's still not "finished", by normal standards, the lag/downtime is when they are updating something.  And yeah, they have how many servers?  20+?  A server that is capable of processing that much data must be constantly updated and maintained, costing about 10k a month, each.  But that was if people didn't try to hack, see, then they have to develop anti-hacking software and such, that doubles, nay, triples the price of the server.  One of the non-Blizzard related lag problems is Kosmos.  It makes lag.  Lots of it.
So we're up to what?  600k?  Yeah, that's servers alone.  Now, in order for games to get worked on, you need a development team.  These aren't cheap. You're paying multiple teams to compete to see who can get the most creative and efficient solutions to existing problems.  And, at about 100k a month, per team, you're shelling out alot of money.  Let's say there's one team per server, and I'm estimating 20 servers  (Been a long time since I logged in) that's.. Oh, wow, on development alone they spend about *Dun dun dun* Two Million on development alone.  We're up to 2.6 million, and haven't even gotten to customer service!
Customer service, this includes GMs and people who listen to people whine about the characters being un-balanced.  These brave people can survive the bitchings and moanings of whiney butt *points to butt* little babys all day long.  Last time I checked, Blizzard was paying in the range of $10-$15 an hour for GMs, also paying for their subscription to the game. Bad part is, you have to live somewhere in southern California to work for them. Anyways, there's ohh...  At least 20 GMs per server, right? 20*20*12.5= $5000.  Multiply that by 13 for the number of people who read complaint e-mails/phone calls, and you get $65,000.
I'm sure I missed some things, but, my price tag for the cost of runing WoW a month comes to...

$2,665,000
Two or three, your butt *points to butt*, eh?

no sheep...you just pointed out that its roughly 3m a month cost...that still leaves the other $72m a month profit.

20? its about 40 now, at least.

Dont give me nothing about the GMs 'listening' to the whiners. You whine, they send an email to quit being an butt *points to butt*(Ive gotten a few for swearing). 90% of their complaints tend to be about lag, getting screwed over by the gold farmers, or people swearing at players(hello? theres a filter for a reason. its default is "ON". Meaning: YOU HAD TO CHANGE IT TO BEGIN WITH! You really shouldnt be complaining about this nothing)

Cosmos isnt the cause of Ironforge lag(Which ill admit has lightened up since they linked the capital cities). The aptly named "Forge-lag" is a rendering problem. Go in there with "Track Humanoids" once...you'll see why theres lag. Fixing it is a simple solution, but requires more effort than it sounds to fix.

you forgot the foreign servers. so, for arguements sake lets triple the cost (Euro and Oceanic servers). still only 10% of their income...

No matter how you swing it...they're not paying anywhere near their income to run wow.

--lighter side--
Southern Cali? Orange County to be exact.

he wont lose nothing...the majority of the players are pvp freaks, and they're kissing their asses. As long as people keep paying the $15 a month, Blizzards Execs dont care
