I would say it depends what you are looking to do on DA
Here is a slightly expanded opinion on each path from my experiences. Some may disagree but to each their own, this is only my opinion. this doesn't pertain to arena either, since I don't arena.
Rogues- Great 1st character because you can solo your way almost to master using traps but once you get too high for trapping it becomes hard to get hunt offers until you establish yourself as a rogue. Even then it is hard if you don't have normal hunting partners. Bashing power is weaker than even a monk so you will rely a lot on skill and to be completely honest, there aren't many rogues on DA that are actually 'skilled' at their path. AS has a wait time of 22 seconds and that's your strongest hit. Once you get Dex high enough though you can 2 man Nobis 1st floor with a priest and 1 hit Skellys when they are Arded and Prahmed. Also can group with Wizzys so they feel safer there.
Med Path- As a pure you should only go Med path when maxed stats and at least 12k HP and 12k MP otherwise you will just suck. Once Archer you get a whole lot more exp hunts because of Star Arrow so you can easily 2 or 3 man, and pwn Chaos-but are screwed on the AB hunting aspect until you increase your bases drastically. So if you frustrate easily, this is not the path for you, unless you sub, or if after you master you make another character and take breaks from the Rogue.
Warriors- You bash and yell 'HEAL' or 'SPELLS' just enough to irritate your hunting partners and kill their joy in hunting. OK I will behave
I think Warrior is the easiest class in the game so probably best if new to DA. Imping time is the worst part about the path. If you can not tolerating bashing on a pet or a chest for many many hours to improve your skills to master then you're out of luck.. Perks of the path- you are the strongest basher class, KRU 'loves you long time', once you get PF (Paralyze Force) you will get lots of offers to hunt places that need a full screen suain. Especially great for canals! I have heard lately that some find it hard to get groups after they master and pre PF but I can't really comment on that because I have a set group.
Med Path- You pwn and slice through most things like jelly. Once you get high enough HP you can solo some places, being the basher-you get a lot of the AP bonus, and if you are male you get to look sexxi in spandex.
Monks- In my opinion this is a great character because they require a lot of skill and it isn't just ...bash, bash, bash. Again though, you are weaker than a Warrior so it becomes hard to get hunts. And Dugons are a *&%$^. So again, if you frustrate easily- Monk may not be the path for you
Med Path- Who doesn't love a Leezard or a Puppy? Seriously though, the only monk I ever had I deleted so I am not very knowledgeable in the skill area but from personal experience on my Priz and Priest I will say, I prefer hunting with Monks over Warriors. They make the hunt fun!
Wizards- Hard to level in the beginning because you can't really kill much. If you hit a creature with elements they tend to...hit you back harder, HA. Once you level up though you are needed for Fassing and that's basically what you do till master. Boring, but worth it after you master. Can easily solo Nobis and max rather quickly. If you go pure you can go Med path very early unmaxed with decent MP.
Med Path- If you are pure you get Lyliac Plant. This is invaluable and will get you a lot of exp so you can max quick as well as make some gold 'flowering' people if you want. Wiz is my second favorite path

Priests- Always dependent on a group yet needed for all hunts. If you are a very skilled priest once you master you will always have hunt offers. Once you are mastered and max DSG with decent Int level you can easily clear out the lower floors in Nobis with a pure summoner handy.
Med Path- As a pure Bard there are more benefits now (cursed tunes etc) but still have to get pretty good bases before going Med class. I have a GM pure Priest and don't plan on going Med for a looong time. Also very easy to get AB hunts.
There's my 2 cents, yah I was bored at work
